Yankee Doodle Dandy

We recently finished planning Yankee Doodle Pops, the state’s largest single day event. The Symphony puts this whole thing on as its gift to the community and what a gift it is! It takes three days to set up and about eight hours to tear down, but in between it’s one amazing concert and fireworks display!

One particularly rewarding part of this year, is that we were able to partner with the Symphony, the First Lady, Simon Estes and several Des Moines business leaders in raising funds for flood & tornado disaster relief. Over 50 volunteers helped us collect funds from the crowd raising nearly $40,000 for the Embrace Iowa: 2008 Iowa Disaster Fund. It’s so rewarding to be a part of something where the whole community comes together not just to celebrate our nation’s independence, but also to help our fellow Iowans!
