The magic of LEDs

Sometimes you’re in a venue that limits what you can do with your centerpieces. Recently we were at a spot that didn’t allow candles and had wind issues. We had done various floral arrangements with this event for the past few years, so we wanted to switch things up a bit. And here was another problem – we needed light once the sun went down. So what’s an event planner to do? LED lights!

LED lights use light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as a light source, giving off a high amount without a lot of power. And what’s great is that they come in little, submersible versions that are just perfect for event décor!

So for this event, we combined our LEDs, colored water and crystal wire in vases to create centerpieces that looked great both day and night. Isn’t technology great?!

Yankee Doodle Dandy

We recently finished planning Yankee Doodle Pops, the state’s largest single day event. The Symphony puts this whole thing on as its gift to the community and what a gift it is! It takes three days to set up and about eight hours to tear down, but in between it’s one amazing concert and fireworks display!

One particularly rewarding part of this year, is that we were able to partner with the Symphony, the First Lady, Simon Estes and several Des Moines business leaders in raising funds for flood & tornado disaster relief. Over 50 volunteers helped us collect funds from the crowd raising nearly $40,000 for the Embrace Iowa: 2008 Iowa Disaster Fund. It’s so rewarding to be a part of something where the whole community comes together not just to celebrate our nation’s independence, but also to help our fellow Iowans!

Here are a couple aerial shots taken by Christopher Maharry that really show the magnitude of the event:

We're here!

After months of planning and years of coordinating events on our own, Down to Details is finally up, running and blogging too! With this blog, we plan to share our tips for planning events and tell details of our recent shindigs. So if you want to know some fun tricks of the trade you can do yourself or just wanna know the inner-workings of our events, check back often and let us know what you think!
